Introducing the 2011-2012 Board Nominees
(in alphabetical order)

Rebecca Bender Bill Allen
Excelsior Springs Job Corps

My name is Bill Allen and I am seeking your support to be a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for three primary reasons. First, my combination of extensive leadership experience (26 years in the Navy and a retired Lt. Commander) combined with my sincere commitment to community service (current president of the Excelsior Springs Rotary Club) provide the foundation for effective service as a board member. Second, as a direct representative of the Job Corps Center, I have the ability to provide substantial and broad-ranging support to Chamber of Commerce and community events. Finally, I am passionate about business (I have a MBA and am completing a PhD in Management) and personally committed to the development of Excelsior Springs. I strongly desire to serve our chamber members by providing energy, enthusiasm and experience to the Board of Directors.

Rebecca Bender Jeanne Buckman
Excelsior Springs Hospital

Having lived, raised a family, and worked in Excelsior Springs for 34 years I have experienced just how important a vibrant chamber is to the local community. The Chamber’s core purpose is to serve its members as an advocate for all their business needs, while providing networking and educational opportunities all in the interest of making Excelsior Springs a better place to live, work, stay or play. I have seen so much growth since living here and I believe there is so much more yet to come. I would be honored to serve as a Chamber Board member and honored to promote the Chambers purpose. Citizens and business owners of Excelsior Springs are proud of their heritage and proud to call Excelsior Springs home.

Rebecca Bender David Faltys
Edward Jones

In September, 2008, I took over the Edward Jones office on Crown Hill Road. I knew I should join the Chamber, but didn't really know why. I began attending the monthly meetings and events, which has been enjoyable, informative and a great way to meet people and make friends. But what's been most inspiring is witnessing the efforts the business community has made through the Chamber to make Excelsior Springs a better place to live and a better place to own or operate a business. I would welcome the opportunity to serve on the Chamber Board of Directors to proactively participate in building, strengthening and preparing our community for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Bob Gerdes David Haugland
City of Excelsior Springs

My family and I chose Excelsior Springs to be our new home 3-1/2 years ago and the community welcomed us with open arms. I have enjoyed serving the community during that time, but I have also enjoyed serving the chamber members as a board member for the past 3 years. The Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce has continued to market our wonderful community and enhance the opportunities for all of our members. During the past couple of years a lot of focus has been on the committees and the work that they do. The time and effort they have put in are really paying some dividends today. The development of the Community Prospectus and the new Visitor & Newcomer Guide along with the Business After Hours are just some of the changes made the past few years. I believe in giving back to the community and that is why I would be honored to serve a second term on the Chamber Board.

Tray Harkins Bill Hightower
Reece & Nichols Realtors

I’m a local realtor and have lived in Excelsior Springs all my life. I have served on many committees through the years helping to support our community. I feel my past experience serving with such entities as the City Council, Chamber, Hospital, Job Corps and others, will help make me a well rounded board member. I would be honored to serve our community and the Chamber of Commerce, should the chamber members choose to elect me.

Matt Nolker Dana Hopkins
Serenity Face & Body

The Excelsior Springs Chamber of Commerce has done a stellar job of promoting small businesses. Both my husband and I have reaped the rewards of membership in what we believe is the best chamber in the state. Not only has the chamber been instrumental in marketng our businesses, but they have welcomed us into the community with open arms and enriched our lives with the personal and professional relationships we have built with our fellow chamber members. As a result, it would be my pleasure to be able to give back to the community by serving the Chamber as a board member.

Matt Nolker Nate Johnson
Maurer Foundation

I am a life-long Excelsior Springs resident. Presently, I am treasurer of the Maurer Foundation, a foundation in sole support of the Excelsior Springs Museum and Archives. I owned and operated a local business, Quality Milk Company, from 1970 until 1987 and was Business Manager for Crowley Furniture until my retirement in 2005. I am a graduate of Excelsior Springs High School and Arizona State University. Chamber luncheons have reacquainted me with Chamber operations and the positive direction it is taking. It would be a privilege to serve on the Chamber Board and to support the Excelsior Springs business community.

Anna Sue Spohn Brian Rice
Excelsior Springs Standard

In my experience with marketing, design and mass communication for the last 20 years, I have learned that communities that thrive and grow are those who have active, vibrant Chambers of Commerce. When businesses and business leaders pour their various talents and resources into a centralized organization such as the Chamber, the whole community benefits. I have served on the Chamber board for the past two years and have enjoyed participating in the achievements we've attained in that time. The Chamber of Commerce not only helps businesses succeed on a local level, it has worked hard promote our community as a whole on a regional and national level. That promotion helps bring new residents and tourists to our beautiful community and contributes to strengthening our local economy. I enjoy working on this board alongside talented individuals with the same dreams and ambitions toward our continued growth. I have served on the Waterfest committee, Auction committee, Membership committee, and Marketing/Tourism committee, and would love to continue working on the Chamber board for a second term.

Staci Shockley Dr. Pete Rucker
Excelsior Springs Animal Clinic

My family and I moved to Excelsior Springs in 1978 and have always taken part in community and school activitites. In 2008 I became the sole owner of my business and wanted to take a more active role in the community. I joined the Chamber of Commerce to have an avenue to network with businesses and people outside of my office. The Chamber has worked hard to promote Excelsior Springs and as a business owner we need to be willing to help promote our community and to serve the Chamber of Commerce.
